Albany (NY) Alumni Chapter 

Founded in 1971

The Krimson & Kream at the Kasino was on May 5, 2018 at Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady,  NY.  Over $40,000 in scholarships awarded to high school seniors over the last few years.

 

The Fraternity and Chapter continues to mourn the loss of our beloved Brother Jeffrey Fryar.  God called Brother Fryar home on December 3, 2016.  His love for this fraternity was unwavered, having dedicated 15 spirited years as a member of the organization.

 

The 2015 Black and White Scholarship Ball held on May 2, 2015 was a huge success.  Close to $30,000 in scholarships and prizes awarded the last three years.

The Fraternity Giving Back -

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. raised over $1.5 million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to help find cures and save children with pediatric cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Distinguished Service Award Recipient

The Distinguished Service Award is the most prestigious award conferred upon our members.  To be recognized, with this award, a member in good standing must have performed praiseworthy service to our chapter, fraternity, foundation or community.

David Bowie, Keeper of Exchequer for the Albany (NY) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.  Brother David Bowie was born and raised in Kansas City, Mo. He attended California State University in Los Angeles and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.  Brother Bowie also received a Master of Arts in Urban Studies from Occidental College in Los Angeles, California. 

Brother Bowie worked for the NYS Department of Civil Service for 33 years before retiring. While employed with Civil Service, Brother Bowie served in number of increasingly responsible positions in the divisions of Testing, Classification and Compensation, Affirmative Action and Staffing Services.  
Brother Bowie has committed his life to community service and has been involved in numerous organizations and capacities over the years including:  

  • Haiti Development Foundation- Member, Board of Directors
  • Black History Creative Expression Contest- Treasurer
  • Blacks in Government- Member, Board of Directors
  • Albany Community Federal Credit Union-Secretary, Board of Directors
  • Executives Services Corp of Tri-Cities
  • National Urban Fellows Program
  • NYS Education Department, Professional Assistant Program
  • One Hundred Black Men of the Albany, Capital Region Chapter-Treasurer
  • Albany, NY Chapter of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People 

Brother Bowie was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. at the Upsilon Chapter in the spring of 1961. He has continuously been an active member in this Fraternity since his initiation. That is over 52 years of service to both the community and the Fraternity.  Brother Bowie is one of 10 men who chartered the Albany (NY) Alumni Chapter on December 4, 1971.  He has held the offices of Polemarch, Board of Directors, Dean of Pledges, and presently holds the office of Exchequer.  He has been instrumental in assisting the Chapter continue the traditions of the Fraternity’s founders in the areas of community service, fraternalism and achievement in every field of human endeavor.

Brother Bowie is married to the lovely Lucretia Bowie.
